Hi all,

This is a continuation of my previous post here: http://forum.psquared.net/Topic4138-22-1.aspx

Myraid 3.5.15 still continues to hang occasionaly overnight, but checking the Windows systems logs after the event shows that Myriad 'falls over' after there has been a group policy security update. The event that flags the Group policy update is referenced as 'SceCli 1704', although the eventually 'hang' of the Myriad application happens either immediately or at anytime in the period of two hours after the 'SceCli' update. The hang is reported as a kernel issue with Myriad.

I've search the Microsoft knowledge database a tweak to a registry key in Win Server 2003 to only update every 7 days but this doesn't appear to stop the 'Scecli' updates and therefore the problem with Myriad hanging.  One instance of hanging every seven days would be better then the current on in every 16 hours the default for the group policy update.

Can anyone throw any light on this continuing issue or provide a solution?

BTW, the 'SceCli' updates on the other two other PC which run Myriad doesn't cause MYriad fall over, although they do occasionally pause for a few seconds.

Since my earlier post on the subject, I've moved the three Myriad PC and music library server to their own managed switch with a fibre optic link to the general office/admin switch.

One other thing... while I'm here I occasionally get a on screen message telling me that Myriad has lost its Database connection and/or that the Microsoft Jet engine has failed... any one have any ideas what's going on here?

Roger.

Roger,

are the PC's in a domain?

Is the Myriad system on a seperate LAN segment or completely different hub/switch? or along with the rest of the office?

Hi David,

Myriad PCs are apart of the domain, but on their own switch/hub. The switch/hub is connected to the principle 'admin' switch/hub by fibre optic.

The machine in question is the our 'Myriad 3' PC in the rack that sustains our service overnight and used for the play-out of recorded and RVT'd programmes.

Since my last post on the subject I've noticed a huge reduction in the number of times the system 'falls over', from almost daily, perhaps twice daily to... well, this week so far, once! The only thing I can attribute this to is the installing of the 'Database' registry patch released on this forum. The latter has been installed on the other two instances of Myriad too.

However, and there's always a however, I an being told of an occasional alert box popping up advising of a lose of IP connection... I've not seen this myself. But I suspect that it might actually be related to Myriad computer addressing, the number allocated to each PC in the database. I have on the odd occasion when 'house keeping' had a Myriad alert box pop up statin that the computer ID is already in use. Investigations show that it is not, looking at the Myriad setup panel, but the PC in question has been allocated the next free number in he sequence. I know there was an issue with this with our setup before an a small registry patch and a 'long-hand' manual tweak was forwarded to me to correct this in the registry directly.

Roger.

All of our PC's are set on Static IP's. Their names/IP's and MAC's are reserved in DHCP and I have (A)Pointer records in DNS, forward and reverse look-up's, so if the computer disconnects it will find it's self again rather than the error that it already exists. That would usually happens if you've a clock error or bad network connection. Another suggestion would be to replace the CMOS battery. I've not had a problem with group policies on any of the PC's in our Domain running Windows Server 2003R2. All our PC's are XP SP3.

Thanks showbiz...

We're the same as you all PCs have fixed IP, Mac addressing, etc., etc. I'll try the CMOS battery change, its worth a try.

Although I use Dimension4 software to keep the PCs to time - maybe this is causing me some issues?

Since installing the database registry update the problem we've been having has all but stopped.

Network cabling is new as I changed the colour coding of the cables for the Myriad machines for clear identification in the rack patch, but obviously there are only 4 cables in the managed switch and a fibre optic link to the admin network switch.

I regularly have a kernel fault reported in the logs, by regularly I mean once or twice a week, although at its peak it was almost 3 to 4 time a day. It's reduce since I install 2Gb of new matched memory.

Slowly, very slowly I'm getting the better of the PC that's running our overnight playout by Myriad.

Roger.
