Muti-channel v's single channel sound cards
Using a multi-channel soundcard such as the cards in the Echo Audio range offers a greater level of user control to the presenter. With a multi-channel soundcard, the sound from each Cart Player in Myriad comes out through a separate channel on the soundcard which means it can be wired directly to separate channels on your mixing console offering the presenter much greater control. P Squared recommend the Echo Gina 24 soundcard from www.echoaudio.com, the Gina is ideal for studio workstations running a mix of automated and 'live assisted' programs. Under Windows(tm) 2000, PC's fitted with single channel sound cards (such as Sound Blaster(tm) cards) can still be configured to have multiple Cart Players in Myriad (by setting the desired level of Cart players in Myriad Config and then assigning each Cart Player to the same sound card) however, Myriad will not be able to adjust the volume for each Cart Player individually (because they are all the same card!) so you will not be able to use a single sound card Myriad workstation to either 'run to time' or to 'duck' the volume around voice links and sweepers.
The exception this is the Echo Mia sound card that offers four 'virtual' sound cards that Myriad can control the volume for individually but only one physical audio output which is an amalgamation of all four Cart Players. The Mia is the perfect sound card for a playout system that is running mostly automated output. Like the Gina, the Mia is compatible with balanced audio in and outputs and can be ordered from sales@psquared.net
