Compress / Repair a Database in Myriad v3

Myriad v3 uses two key databases, the Station Database (which contains settings and the Schedule Log) and the P Squared Directory database (which contains User settings and information). In both cases, seeing this error will be rare as Myriad automatically compacts and validates both databases each time it starts up.

That said databases can from time to time become damaged by a PC not shutting down correctly or even a hardware error or fault, also if the system has been running reliably and you have not had need to close Myriad, databases can grow in size and become slower in their operation

The important thing to remember is that the damaged database is not the end of the world and you should be able to recover the database using the steps outlined below.

Repairing a Damaged or Corrupted Database

TAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR DATABASE FIRST. It may seem like it is a little late but it is better to have a backup of a corrupted database that P Squared may be able to repair, than to not have a database at all. There are two databases in Myriad v3 that you may have to repair; they are the Station Database and the P Squared Directory Database. The default location for each database is shown below but keep in mind that the location of these databases is a configuration option so your system may be configured differently.

Database: Station Database - (previously known as Q-NXT)
Default Folder: D:\Myriad\System\Schedule
Default File Name: Myriad3.mdb

Assuming your Myriad Data Location is set to D:\Myriad\System (see Settings Menu > Myriad Settings > Data Location

Database: P Squared Contacts and Users Directory (previously Users)
Default Folder: D:\Directory
Default File Name: Directory.mdb

Assuming your P Squared Directory Location is set to D:\Directory (see Settings Menu > P Squared Directory Settings > Path)

To take a backup of either of these files, use My Computer to browse to the appropriate location and then simply copy the .MDB file to a backup location just in case something goes wrong.

Next you need to make sure that you quit from Myriad on ALL THE WORKSTATIONS at your station. This includes all studios, any office machines with Myriad installed and playout workstations. If Myriad is left running anywhere on your system then the repair will not be able to be performed and potentially you could further damage the database you are trying to repair. Also, if you are repairing the P Squared Directory you will also have to shut down any Scoop workstations (including Scoop Capture) any AutoTrack or AutoTrack Pro workstations and any copies of Powerlog Client that you are running. In all cases, you just have to quit the P Squared application, shutting down the box will not be necessary.
Next, run the Myriad Emergency Recovery Utility (Start > Programs > P Squared Myriad v3 > Utilities > Emergency Recovery Utility.
You will be warned that you should only use this utility if you are unable to use Myriad to make changes to your setup. In this case, the corrupted database may well be preventing you from accessing Myriad. Click on the Yes button to continue to the Emergency Recovery Utility.
Next click on the Repair Database button.
Use the Browse for File window to browse to the location of the database that you want to repair. Once the database you want to repair is selected, click on the Open button.
You will be asked to confirm that you want to repair / compact the selected database. Click on Yes to Continue
You will next get a warning that applications that use the database must not be running on any PC in the building. Remember that the P Squared Directory is also used by Scoop, AutoTrack, AutoTrack Pro and Powerlog Client so they will all have to be shut down also. Click on the Yes button to proceed.
Myriad will then compact and repair the selected database. This can take anything from a couple of seconds to several minutes during which time the computer may appear to have stopped responding. Please be patient as Myriad will inform you when process has been completed.

Myriad will also create its own backup which you can delete later when you are happy that everything is OK but it is better to have your own backup anyway. If Myriad reports a problem with this process then the best thing to do is contact P Squared Technical Support (support@psquared.net) as soon as possible.

You should now be able to close the Emergency Recovery Utility and go back in to Myriad (Scoop, AutoTrack etc) as normal.
